Projects for 2024-25
Your Next Adventure Awaits
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has relied on software since its inception in 1958. Early NASA missions like Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo ran on primitive software coded by hand. As missions became more complex, NASA pioneered rigorous software engineering practices for mission-critical systems. In the 1960s and 1970s, NASA spearheaded innovations like requirements analysis, risk management, code reviews, and formal verification that became industry best practices. As hardware and data systems advanced, NASA software kept pace, enabling key discoveries. The software has been critical for NASA functions like engine control, navigation, satellite/probe operation, image analysis, data management, and spacecraft autonomy. Today NASA utilizes state-of-the-art software and continues to push boundaries with open-source platforms, AI, and cutting-edge development tools and methodologies. Software remains a key strategic asset in NASA's space exploration and aeronautics research.

Please see D&P for other info)
( Design & Prototype and Three Software Projects )
The Challenge: NASA is making significant strides in lunar exploration, with plans to establish a movable two-chamber lunar habitat and lab. This ambitious project aims to facilitate human exploration of water resources and other valuable resources on the Moon. The habitat will serve as a base for astronauts, allowing them to conduct research and experiments in a controlled environment. The Off-Plant Movable Two Chamber Lab and Habitat has 4 Projects:
1- Design and Prototype see below and Lunar Camper/Lab
2- Make the control system for a SMART Building
3- Implement an AI - ML system to predict required Maintenace.
4- Cyber Security and Networking
Provides a complete solution for managing and controlling the environment in a 2 area smart building, off-planet. It features a comprehensive Control System, software, and sensors, compatible with Windows, Linux, PC, Arduino, and Raspberry PI This software provides an efficient and reliable way to monitor, adjust, and control the environment of space exploration.

Deep Space Logistics Module
VR, Computer Simulation or Game
Play Gateway Video
So NASA's Deep SPACE Logistics Team is putting together a Deep Space Logistics Module for the Gateway space station.
Deep Space Logistics (DSL) is the management and coordination of NASA and commercial supply chains in deep space. It involves procuring services from commercial providers to transport cargo, equipment, and consumables to support missions to the Moon and Mars. DSL takes the lead in establishing the commercial supply chain and coordinates multiple supply missions to the Gateway outpost in lunar orbit. Collaboration with commercial and international partners is crucial to ensure the successful delivery of cargo and supplies.
The responsibilities of Deep Space Logistics include procuring services from commercial providers for transporting cargo, coordinating supply missions to the Gateway outpost, and collaborating with partners. The goal is to establish a reliable and efficient system for transporting essential items to support deep space exploration. This involves delivering critical cargo, science experiments, supplies, and sample collection materials. By managing the commercial supply chain, DSL plays a vital role in enabling the exploration and advancement of human presence beyond Earth's orbit.
The Challenge: Is to design a working prototype of the NASA Deep Space Logistics prototype. This prototype can take one of four forms.
1- VR or AVR.
2- A Controllable animation on a laptop or tablet.
3- A computer, Tablet or Smart Phone Game.
4- A Computer simulation using simulation software.
High Level Objective: For each of the four forms, primary objective is to place as many modules as possible into the Deep Space Logistics Module, and access them with the least amount of touch and movement.

Personal Astronaut Assistant in Space
The Challenge: NASA HUNCH Software is on a mission to explore the boundaries of space and create an innovative system to help astronauts in their daily operations. To achieve this, we have developed a portable Personal Astronaut Assistant that is equipped with task support, health monitoring, companionship, lab assistant, and entertainment functions. By combining cutting-edge technology with our passion for space exploration, we’re creating a system that will revolutionize the way astronauts work and live in space.
Addition Challenge 2024-25 Scope:
With the Personal Astronaut Assistant in Space, students can choose to focus on one or two areas of concentration. These areas include:
1. Exercise routines using bicycles, rowing machines, and
universal weight machines, Running, Walking all in Micro
Gravity (Remember some machines may be Virtual Reality (VR)
or Augmented Reality (AR))
2. Entertainment options for leisure time. May include
Music, video, Netflix Series etc. , News Feeds, Reels,
Sunrise and Sunset, and even games.
3. Meal Prep. and Mealtime, Morning Routine.
4. Various games such as online electronic board games,
single player, multi-player, and against an ML/AI opponent.
Both for fun and brain stimulation. This may include "Olden
time games", ask Mr. Burke or other "Old" teachers.
5. Other
Remember, try and use your own devices (Smart Devices, Computers, Tablets, etc.) and collect the Meta Information, logs etc, to try collect information to download and schedule. NOTE: Collection is key. Think about all these as having a Rythm during Workdays, Weekends and Holidays plus Birthdays.

Using AI to Synthesize Medical Data
Note: This project is shared with HUNCH BIOHEALTH
https://www.hunch-biohealth.com/
The Challenge: The use of AI to synthesize medical data can be invaluable in space exploration. AI can take multiple medical inputs from various sources and provide a comprehensive analysis of the health of astronauts. This can help a medical officer accurately assess the risk of a mission and provide essential medical advice to help astronauts stay safe and healthy. AI can also be used to provide tailored medical advice based on the individual needs of astronauts, helping to ensure that they are provided with the best possible care in space.
Addition Challenge 2024-25 Scope: This year we would like to have AI/ML applications that can identify more than on disease. If you review the presentation, you will see additional medical issues to look at.
Remember, we request that you use standalone systems, but you can use Large Language Models and Generative AI.
